23 schools statewide honored, including 3 public schools and 3 Catholic private schools from the Archdiocese of Washington
Recognized for superior academic achievement and closing the student achievement gap
Six public and private schools in Montgomery County, Maryland, have been named "Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools," the state's highest honor, in recognition of their superior academic achievement.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced on the 20th that a total of 23 schools across the state were named "2026-2027 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools." This marks a significant increase compared to last year, when only seven schools were selected.
Among them, Montgomery County achieved a major milestone with a total of six schools included: three public schools and three Catholic private schools affiliated with the Archdiocese of Washington.
Among Montgomery County Public Schools (Montgomery County Public Schools), three schools made the award list: ▲ Beverly Farms Elementary ▲ Somerset Elementary ▲ Travilah Elementary.
Among private schools under the Archdiocese of Washington, three schools were recognized for their excellence and included: ▲ St. Andrew Apostle School ▲ St. Bartholomew School ▲ St. John the Baptist School. Urbana Middle School in neighboring Frederick County was also named a Blue Ribbon School this year.
The Blue Ribbon program is an initiative established to discover and encourage outstanding schools that achieve superior academic performance on state and national assessments or effectively close achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Governor Moore praised the schools in a statement, saying, "Maryland has the capacity and the passion to run the best schools in the nation," and "These outstanding educational institutions selected today are leading the future of Maryland education."
The selected schools will receive official recognition at the Maryland State Board of Education meeting on December 8. The awarded schools will be presented with Maryland Blue Ribbon flags, banners, and official certificates.
