Accident Near Randolph Road During Morning Commute… Driver Remains at Scene to Cooperate
Area Roads Completely Closed for About 4 Hours for Crash Clearance
Police are investigating a tragic accident in Montgomery County, Maryland, where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle during the morning commute.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, a report was received shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday the 14th, reporting that a pedestrian-vehicle collision occurred near the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive.
First responders and police officers dispatched to the scene found a woman who had sustained severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer stated on X (formerly Twitter) that "first responders did everything they could to save her life, attempting CPR and other emergency measures on the scene, but tragically, the female victim died at the scene."
Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene following the accident and cooperated with the investigation. As the investigation is ongoing, the specific identity of the deceased woman has not yet been released.
Meanwhile, both directions of Randolph Road (between Sherwood Forest Drive and Hammonton Place) were temporarily shut down for on-scene cleanup and a detailed investigation, causing significant traffic congestion during the morning rush hour. The road closures were completely lifted around 11:15 a.m., about four hours after the accident occurred.
