Fairfax County Police: "Young Children Unharmed Physically… Under Relatives' Care"
A tragic incident occurred in a residential neighborhood of Centreville, Fairfax County, Virginia—an area with a large Asian, particularly Korean-American, population—where a couple in their 30s was found dead from gunshot wounds. Police are investigating the case as an apparent murder-suicide, believing the husband shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, a report of a shooting was received around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday the 9th at a home in the 6300 block of Sharps Drive in Centreville. Responding officers discovered Brandon Brown, 31, and his wife, Lavinia Brown, 31, deceased inside the house with gunshot wounds.
The community has been further shocked by the fact that the couple's three young children and another family member were inside the home at the time of the incident. Police stated that the children fortunately suffered no physical injuries and are currently under the care of other relatives.
Police, who recovered a firearm and cartridge casings at the scene, said they responded following a call from a family member who was in the home at the time. Police spokesperson Ingrid Palencia expressed deep concern during a briefing, stating, "This is a truly unfortunate and tragic incident for our community."
Police have not yet released the exact motive or specific details surrounding the incident. The Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Division has initiated support measures to provide psychological and material assistance to the surviving family and children.
