Residents Urged to Exercise Extreme Caution
Northern Virginia is on high alert following a potential measles exposure case.
Residents are being urged to exercise caution, as the confirmed patient, reportedly an out-of-state resident, visited multiple locations across Reston, Virginia.
On the 28th of last month, the Virginia Department of Health announced that an individual infected with measles visited four businesses in the Reston area while contagious on the 16th, emphasizing that anyone who visited those locations should closely monitor themselves for measles symptoms.
The health department stated that throughout the day on the 16th, the patient visited the Sheraton Reston Hotel (11810 Sunrise Valley Drive), followed by MOTW Coffee and Pastries (11830 Sunrise Valley Drive, Suite 200), 7-Eleven (11854 Sunrise Valley Drive), and Barber & Men's Spa (11830 Sunrise Valley Drive, Unit 900).
Anyone who visited these locations should complete Fairfax County's measles potential exposure survey.
The Virginia Department of Health stated that the risk to the general public remains low as most residents are protected against measles through vaccination, adding that individuals who have received two doses of the measles vaccine or were born before 1957 are considered immune and do not currently require post-exposure treatment.
