Route 605 (Balls Neck Road) to open and Route 604 (Indian Valley Road) to close in Northumberland County

Starting Monday, Feb. 20, Balls Neck Road will open and Indian Valley Road will close for approximately two months

Fredericksburg District

FREDERICKSBURG — The Virginia Department of Transportation will open Route 605 (Balls Neck Road) in Northumberland County on Monday, Feb. 20 after the completion of a bridge maintenance project. On the same day, a portion of Route 604 (Indian Valley Road) will close in Northumberland for similar work.

Both bridges are one of the multiple bridges scheduled to be repaired in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula to address bridge scour. Scour is the erosion of soil around a bridge’s foundation.

Indian Valley Road will close for approximately three months while work is underway.

The posted detour for Indian Valley Road will be along the following routes:

  • Route 360 (Northumberland Highway)
  • Route 201 (Courthouse Road)
  • Route 604 (Indian Valley Road)

View the map.

The signed detour route is approximately 9 miles. Drivers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route depending on their destination.

Message boards are posted to warn motorists about the upcoming road closure.

For additional information and a full list of all the bridges scheduled for repair as part of this maintenance project, please visit the project page at virginiadot.org.
