Prince George’s County Celebrates 35 Years of Transit Service Prince George’s County Celebrates 35 Years of Transit Service Prince George’s County is preparing to mark an important milestone in the future of local transportation with the official launch of GoPGC on September 2, 2026. The launch comes as the County celebrates more than 35 years of local transit service and reflects the next phase of its ongoing Transit Transformation. Formerly known as TheBus, GoPGC will introduce a refreshed identity for County-operated transportation while supporting continued improvements to service, accessibility, technology, and the overall rider experience. For more than three decades, Prince George’s County transit has connected residents to jobs, schools, healthcare, businesses, and essential services. The County’s recent transition to 100% fare-free local transit marked another important step toward making mobility more equitable to residents. The transformation will bring County transit services under a cohesive brand while making the system easier to identify and navigate. Riders can also expect expanded service in select areas, including Sunday service, along with continued investments to improve convenience, reliability, and efficiency countywide. The September 2nd launch will also provide an opportunity to recognize the transit operators, employees, partners, and riders who have helped shape more than three decades of service while introducing the next chapter of County transit. GoPGC represents more than a new name. It reflects Prince George’s County’s continued commitment to building a transportation network that evolves with its communities, supports economic growth, and connects residents to new possibilities. As the 35th commemoration approaches, Prince George’s County looks forward to officially introducing GoPGC and celebrating the County's future of transportation.
