Loudoun County announces a series of upcoming lane closures, flagging operations and traffic pattern adjustments associated with the construction of the Route 7/690 (Hillsboro Road) interchange. Motorists traveling in the Purcellville area along Route 7 and Route 690 should be prepared for intermittent delays and changing traffic conditions beginning the week of April 27, 2026, and throughout the month of May 2026. This work will occur during daytime and overnight hours, excluding high-volume commuting times.
- Beginning the week of April 27, 2026, intermittent lane closures and flagging operations for tree clearing will occur at the intersection of Hirst Road and Hillsboro Road (Route 690). Tree clearing activities and the installation of temporary erosion and sediment controls will take place to support the staging of construction materials. To complete this work, partial lane and shoulder closures will occur intermittently along Route 7 eastbound and westbound near the Route 690 overpass.
- Beginning the week of May 4, 2026, construction work will begin in the westbound right lane of Route 7 in preparation for a future traffic switch. Crews will perform milling and place temporary asphalt in the westbound right lane. Construction is expected to continue for approximately two weeks.
- During the week of May 18, 2026, construction activities will shift from the westbound right lane to the westbound left lane of Route 7. Work in the westbound left lane is expected to continue for an additional two-week period. Construction will involve temporary lane closures and a modified traffic pattern as crews complete milling, paving and associated construction activities in the left lane. While work occurs, drivers should use extra caution, follow directions from road signs and flagger crews, reduce speeds and prepare to slow down when traveling through these areas. About the Project The project will construct the Route 7 at Route 690 interchange, located approximately two miles west of the Route 7 at Route 287 (Berlin Turnpike) interchange and approximately two miles east of the Route 7 at Business Route 7 interchange. The Route 7 and Route 690 interchange will alleviate connectivity issues in the roadway network around Purcellville, reduce through traffic in downtown Purcellville and along a portion of Route 287, and provide a more direct route to destinations north and northwest of Route 7, including Woodgrove High School, Mountain View Elementary School, Hillsboro and Charles Town, West Virginia.
