Business Assistance Team: Fire Marshal Some businesses need to have a Fire Marshal permit to operate. A complete list of fire marshal permit requirements may be found in Chapter 1602 of the Codified Ordinances of Loudoun County. The most common and general classifications that do require a Fire Marshal permit are:

  • Dry Cleaning Plants

  • Educational Occupancy

  • Fireworks retailer, wholesaler or pyrotechnical display

  • Flammable and Combustible Liquids

  • Hazardous Materials Use or Storage

  • Hot Work operations (welding, open flame devices)

  • Liquid or Gas Fueled Vehicles in an Assembly or Mercantile Building

  • LP Gas

  • Lumber Yards, Woodworking and Mulching Plants

  • Miscellaneous Combustible Storage greater than 2,500 cubic feet such as:- Barrels

  • Boxes

  • Cork

  • Empty packing cases

  • Rubber

  • Rubber tires

  • Similar combustible material

  • Places of Assembly (Occupancy of 50 more people)

  • Repair Garages and service stations

  • Salvage / Junk Yards

  • Spaying or Dipping operations such as automobile spray booths

  • Tents exceeding 900 square feet or 20 tents of any size This list is provided as a guideline.
