애난데일 등 한인 밀집 지역을 관할하는 안드레스 히메네스(Andres Jimenez) 페어팩스 카운티 메이슨 디스트릭 수퍼바이저가 과속 및 난폭운전 혐의로 기소된 사실이 확인됐다.
법원 소환장에 따르면, 히메네스 수퍼바이저는 지난 5월 5일 버지니아주 경찰(VSP) 소속 알렉스 박 경관에게 단속되었으며, 당시 제한속도 시속 70마일 구간에서 무려 104마일로 주행한 혐의를 받고 있다. 단속 당시 그는 차량 등록증(Registration Card)도 소지하지 않고 있어 관련 혐의가 추가됐다. 단속이 이뤄진 구체적인 도로명과 시간대는 소환장에 명시되지 않았다.
버지니아주 현행법상 제한속도와 관계없이 시속 85마일을 초과하거나, 제한속도보다 20마일 이상 과속할 경우 ‘난폭운전(Reckless Driving)’ 혐의가 적용된다.
특히 버지니아에서 난폭운전은 단순 교통 위반이 아닌 ‘클래스 1 경범죄(Class 1 Misdemeanor)’에 해당한다. 법원에서 유죄가 확정될 경우, 최대 12개월의 징역형이나 최대 2,500달러의 벌금형, 혹은 두 가지 처벌을 모두 받을 수 있다. 이에 따라 그의 향후 정치적 행보에도 상당한 타격이 예상된다.
히메네스 수퍼바이저는 지난 2024년 1월 임기를 시작해 한인타운 애난데일이 포함된 메이슨 디스트릭을 이끌어왔다. 현재 카운티 수퍼바이저위원회 산하 입법위원회 위원장, 인사·재조직위원회 부위원장을 맡고 있으며, 북부 버지니아 교통위원회(NVTC) 예비 위원으로도 활동하고 있는 만큼, 교통 법규 위반에 대한 지역 주민들의 비판 여론은 더욱 거세질 것으로 보인다.
히메네스 수퍼바이저에 대한 첫 재판은 오는 7월 20일 오전 9시 30분 페어팩스 카운티 일반지방법원에서 열릴 예정이다.
Mason District Supervisor Andres Jimenez Charged with Reckless Driving for Going 104 MPH

Jimenez is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County General District Court on July 20 at 9:30 a.m.
According to court summons, the traffic stop was initiated on May 5 by Virginia State Police Trooper Alex Pak. In addition to the reckless driving charge, Jimenez was cited for failing to carry a vehicle registration card. The state police summons did not specify the exact location of the stop or the time of day it occurred.
Under Virginia state law, a reckless driving charge is automatically triggered when a motorist exceeds the speed limit by 20 mph or more, or drives in excess of 85 mph regardless of the posted limit.
In the Commonwealth, reckless driving is classified as a Class 1 misdemeanor. If convicted, Jimenez could face a fine of up to $2,500 and/or up to 12 months in jail.
Jimenez has represented the Mason District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors since January 2024. The board is responsible for setting county-wide policies on public safety and transportation, among other local issues.
In addition to his supervisor duties, Jimenez chairs the board’s Legislative Committee, serves as vice chair of the Personnel and Reorganization Committee, and represents Fairfax County on the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) as an alternate member.
