Your information can also be updated by mailing or faxing a new voter registration application to the office. Additionally you can update your information on the back of your voter card and mail that to the office and we will process your change. Changes are typically processed within 10 business days and you will receive a new voter card in the mail.

Transit Services - Commuter Bus ServiceEach bus is equipped with an electronic farebox that accepts the SmarTrip® cards. Value can be loaded onto the SmarTrip cards using 3 different methods: 1) Value can be added using credit / debit or cash at any Metrorail station. 2) Value can be added using credit or debit online at www.wmata.com. Adding value on-line can take up to three business days to be loaded onto the SmarTrip card. 3) Value can be added on the commuter buses using the farebox. Cash is the only option when loading value to on the bus. It is preferred that riders please use option 1 or 2 when loading value. Adding value on the bus can slow down boarding times significantly.

Riders can also register to receive emails. The Bus Biz email system is used to email future schedule changes or upcoming events. An example of information sent via Bus Biz is: "Next Tuesday is Veterans’ Day and the commuter buses will follow the holiday schedule."

Transit Services - Commuter Bus ServiceThe commuter coaches that are owned by Loudoun County have 12 rows of seats, 55 seats total. Each of the aisle seats are equipped with handles to accommodate standees. Since there are 12 rows of seats with handles, 12 additional riders are allowed to stand if they choose to voluntarily. If the bus is at capacity (55 seated and 12 standing), riders will need to wait for the next bus. If the last bus out of the city is full, riders can make a connection to the last Loudoun County Transit bus leaving the Ashburn or Loudoun Gateway Metro Stations.

- Transit Services - Commuter Bus ServicePersonal items left on a bus normally will remain on the same bus for 24 hours, and then the item will be turned over to Loudoun County staff. Certain items may be removed from the bus immediately at our discretion. All unclaimed items will be held for 30 days. After 30 days, the unclaimed items will be donated or thrown away. Passengers may call the county to check on the status of a lost item at 703-771-5665 or send an email. Any item not claimed within 24 hours may be picked up at the Loudoun County Department of General Services Transit Division. The office is located at 209 Gibson Street NW, Suite 100, in Leesburg.

Transit Services - Commuter Bus ServiceLoudoun County has a registration procedure for passengers wishing to place bicycles in the luggage bays of the commuter buses. We are all aware of heightened security in this region as well as the whole country relative to potential threats. The county has created this procedure to help alleviate some passenger uncertainty with bicycles being placed on the buses. This registration procedure provides a Bus on Board ID card for every rider who places a bicycle on the commuter buses. This ID card is issued to a rider once the Bike on Bus registration form has been completed and returned to the county. Riders display the ID card to the driver every time they put their bike on the bus. A Bike on Bus card is not needed on any local fixed route bus operating within Loudoun County. All vehicles are equipped with two bicycle racks on the front of the bus. 

- Each park and ride lot has a specific number of legal parking places that are either marked with a bumper stop or are striped. All spaces in the park and ride lots are available on a first come, first served basis. If all of the legal spaces are full and you choose to park illegally, then you may be ticketed or towed at your expense.Transit Services - Commuter Bus Service Transit Services - Vanpooling 11- It is a group of seven to 15 individuals who travel to and from work in a shared passenger van, minivan or SUV. Vanpool costs vary based on the type of vehicle selected and the number of miles traveled per month. In Loudoun County, the average price paid by vanpool members is $200 per month. Vanpool expenses can be paid with transportation fringe benefits as allowed by IRC Section 132(f).Transit Services - Vanpooling

- Members of the vanpool are responsible for the driving. Each vanpool needs at least two drivers from within their group. Third-party vanpool providers pre-screen the driving records of anyone who requests to drive the vehicle and have minimum age requirements for drivers.Transit Services - Vanpooling

Vanpools can be structured three different ways:Transit Services - Vanpooling- Third-party providers—Typically the third-party provider arranges for the vehicle, insurance, maintenance, emergency roadside assistance and billing. Providers take an active role in assisting commuters who are interested in forming or joining a vanpool.
  • Owner-operators—Individuals lease or purchase a van and operate it independently. Participants pay the owner a set monthly fee. All arrangements are coordinated by the individual owner.

  • Employers—Employers or a group of employers buy or lease vans for their employees’ commuting needs. Employers organize riders, insure and maintain the vehicles. The employer may charge a fee or subsidize the service. This type of arrangement would be publicized through an employer’s human resources department.

  • The vehicles range from crossovers and SUVs to minivans and full-sized vans. In order to qualify as a vanpool, the vehicle must be able to accommodate from seven to 15 adults, including the driver.Transit Services - Vanpooling

  • Area third-party vanpool providers include ABS Van Rentals, Green Line Commuter, Inc., Patriotic Advantures and Rideshare by Enterprise. While Loudoun County does not lease or operate vanpools, Loudoun County Commuter Services works closely with Vanpool Alliance and area vanpool providers to help facilitate vanpool formation.Transit Services - Vanpooling

  • Vanpool participants are able to pay for their commute using pre-tax and/or direct transportation benefits provided by their employers. Vanpools have more people to share the driving. And, those who vanpool save wear and tear on their own vehicles.Transit Services - Vanpooling

Solid Waste Management - Business Recycling 8- Solid Waste Management - Business RecyclingYes. All businesses in the unincorporated areas of Loudoun County must separate at least one principle recyclable material (PRM) generated annually in the largest quantity. In multi-tenant commercial properties in which individual businesses do not manage their own solid waste, the principle recyclable material shall be determined on the basis of the property’s combined waste stream. The term "business" means a business, corporation, association, firm, partnership, joint stock company, county, city, town, governmental body, or any other legal entity. Recyclable material may not be disposed as trash, but must be deposited at a lawful recycling drop-off center, recycling facility, approved facility, or through a permitted solid waste collector that provides recycling services.

  • PRMs (principle recyclable materials) include paper, metals (except automobile bodies), plastics, glass, yard waste, wood, and textiles. The most common PRMs are white office paper, mixed paper, cardboard, and paperboard.Solid Waste Management - Business Recycling

  • If your solid waste collector is a major collector, they are required to include service to collect your recyclables provided your recyclables are white office paper, mixed paper or cardboard. Major collectors operate 4 or more vehicles and collect more than 2,000 tons of solid waste annually. View a list of Major Collectors and Recycling Collectors. This list can also be obtained from the Loudoun County Department of Planning and Zoning by calling 703-777-0246.Solid Waste Management - Business Recycling Please contact your current solid waste collector about establishing recycling services for your business if your PRM is white office paper, mixed paper, or cardboard.

  • Solid waste collectors are only required to collect and recycle source-separated office paper, mixed paper, and/or cardboard for recycling from businesses. Businesses with waste streams including some other PRM generated in greater quantity than paper, such as yard waste, arboreal waste, textiles, or bottles and cans, are still required to recycle that material regardless if their solid waste collector will provide the necessary recycling collection service.Solid Waste Management - Business Recycling There are local solid waste collectors that do provide curbside recycling service for items such as co-mingled recyclables including aluminum cans, steel cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic bottles and jugs, as well as office paper / cardboard. Businesses that choose not to use curbside recycling services, or that may not have access to curbside service, are welcome to use the Loudoun County Recycling Drop-Off Centers to recycle glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, steel cans, plastic bottles and jugs, and mixed paper including cardboard. The Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility, also known as the Loudoun County Landfill, accepts a variety of materials for recycling (fees apply) including scrap metal, yard waste, arboreal waste, tires, propane tanks, and refrigerated appliances. The facility also accepts other materials for recycling (at no charge) including used motor oil, antifreeze, automotive batteries, mixed paper, cardboard, and beverage / food / detergent bottles and cans.

  • It is the responsibility of the business owner, property owner or property manager to notify new tenants and/or employees within five days in writing of the mandatory recycling requirement, and no less frequently than annually thereafter.Solid Waste Management - Business Recycling

  • Solid Waste Management - Business RecyclingAny business that separates recyclable material from its solid waste stream and such source separated material is collected and transported by someone other than those currently permitted in Loudoun County is required to submit an annual recycling report to the Department of General Services by January 31 of each calendar year for the preceding year. Please contact the Department of General Services, Waste Management Division, by emailing [email protected] or calling 703-771-5552 for the annual reporting requirements and report form. If your waste collector is not currently permitted, please contact this office with the business name and telephone number of your waste collector. Solid Waste Management - Recycling Requirements 10- Yes. Loudoun County has had a mandatory recycling requirement in place since 1991 for both residents and businesses. New recycling requirements became effective January 1, 2003. These requirements make it mandatory for solid waste collectors to provide curbside recycling service to your home. Multifamily dwellings and apartment complexes will also receive recycling collection services.Solid Waste Management - Recycling Requirements

  • Residents are required to separate newspapers and magazines, container glass, metal and aluminum cans, and plastic beverage and detergent containers from household waste for recycling. Residents are also required to separate all of the above materials along with cardboard, paperboard, and yard waste, provided that the resident has contracted with a collector that provides recycling services for yard waste.Solid Waste Management - Recycling Requirements If you are not currently receiving curbside recycling collection you may take your recyclables to any of the county's recycling drop-off centers.

  • Curbside solid waste collection and recycling services in Loudoun County are provided by private solid waste collection firms through contracts with town governments and homeowners associations (HOAs) or by individual subscription.Solid Waste Management - Recycling Requirements

  • Incorporated towns are sovereign entities in Loudoun County. Towns are expressly exempt from the county recycling requirements unless they choose to adopt the requirements in part or in whole.   • Major solid waste collectors (those operating four or more collection vehicles and/or collecting 2,000 tons or more per year) must provide curbside recycling collection services. If curbside collection is unavailable, deliver your recyclables to one of Loudoun's recycling drop-off centers.   • Residents living in apartments or condominiums outside the seven incorporated towns must also comply with the county recycling requirements. The county ordinance requires that apartment owners or managers are responsible for providing a recycling system to tenants. A recycling system may simply be a centrally located recycling collection point for bottles, cans, and paper.Solid Waste Management - Recycling Requirements Business owners, property owners or property managers are responsible for ensuring each living unit has access to a recyclables collection container or containers. Property owners or property managers are also responsible for notifying new tenants and/or employees in writing of the recycling requirement. This notification will be given at a minimum, yearly.

  • Recyclable materials will be set out separately from solid waste. Recyclable materials shall not be set out in plastic bags, nor shall plastic bags be deposited in recycling containers. Newspapers, magazines, and cardboard will be separated and not mixed with other materials. Glass, metal, and plastics can be mixed.
