The Fairfax County Police Department has shocked the local community by announcing that it arrested and is investigating Jaspal Balraj (61, of Reston), a teacher accused of assaulting a 3-year-old child at a Reston daycare center.
According to police, detectives responded to a report of an assault on August 7 at the "Bright Horizons" daycare center located at 11400 Commerce Park Drive in Reston.
The investigation revealed that Balraj, who worked as a teacher at the daycare, pulled the hair of a 3-year-old boy, pushed the child's head into a basket, and then shoved him to the floor, forcing him down.
Police charged Balraj with Misdemeanor Assault and Battery and released her on a summons.
The Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Division stated, "We are continuing to provide support to ensure the victimized child receives the necessary assistance and appropriate resources."
Meanwhile, anxiety among local parents is growing as a series of related crimes, including an incident involving inappropriate physical contact by a special education teacher, have recently occurred at educational and child-care facilities in Fairfax County.
