Major Executive Reshuffle at Fairfax County Police Department… Captain Wiend Named Franconia Station Commander
The Fairfax County Police Department (Fairfax County Police Department) has announced a major reshuffle of its key station commanders and senior executive leadership.
On July 31, the police department announced the appointment of Major Cristina Burrow as the new commander of the Mason Police District. Former commander Major Erin Weeks was promoted to Deputy Police Chief and will oversee the Internal Affairs Bureau.
New Commander Burrow, who joined the county police department in 2011, worked as a patrol officer at the Mount Vernon District Station and on the Tysons Urban Team before serving as a detective in the Major Crimes Bureau. She later served as a supervisor at the Sully, West Springfield, and Mount Vernon District Stations, as well as the Internal Affairs Bureau, and most recently served as the commander of the Crisis Intervention Team.
Commander Burrow, a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (Bachelor's degree), has completed key professional courses including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Women's Leadership Institute and FCPD new commander training, and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in National Security Studies. She is also recognized as a military and public safety expert, holding experience as a U.S. Army Reserve officer deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, along with the Mason Police District, promotions and transfers were made for other key positions in this department personnel action. Captain Deanna Wiend was promoted to serve as the new commander of the Franconia Police District. Commander Wiend began her law enforcement career in 2005 as a 911 call taker at the Department of Public Safety Communications and, after graduating from the police academy, held various field patrol, administrative, and command roles. She provided IT support for the implementation of body-worn cameras and managed security operations for the 2015 World Police and Fire Games, and most recently led the Community Engagement Division, taking the lead in crime prevention and youth program management.
Meanwhile, Captain Christopher Cosgriff was appointed as the Executive Officer of Operations at police headquarters. Major Cosgriff is a veteran commander who has served as a patrol officer at the West Springfield District Station, on the Technical Response Team in the Special Operations Division, as a field supervisor at the Mason Police District, in Internal Affairs, and as Director of the Public Affairs Bureau.
