Using data from the Cocoa Supplement and Multivitamin Outcomes Study (COSMOS), researchers evaluated 16,027 participants assigned randomly to receive daily multivitamins, cocoa extract, both, or a placebo over three years.
Functional health was assessed using the Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire (KCCQ), measuring participants' ability to perform tasks such as dressing, bathing, walking, climbing stairs, and doing housework, as well as burdens such as fatigue and shortness of breath.
