FPCC - General Permit Process General Permits are required for specific locations where hazardous processes occur or where the location itself may produce a hazard. All payments and permit applications, including supporting documentation for review, must be submitted electronically via ePlans. Key Information Before You Begin Permits can usually be issued within five business days, and typically, there is no inspection required. Fire Code Compliance may require a General Fire Permit for all the items listed in the NFPA 1 Fire Code, Table 1.12.8(a). For those that do not have a specific application form or review process at DPS such as fireworks or tank installations, a General Permit application form must be used. Please try to accurately describe your project when applying online so that DPS staff can assist you in making the correct selection. Process Guide General Permit Apply and Pay General Permits may be applied through DPS Apply Online Services. Most permits are for 30 calendar days. Some permits are available for year-round operations and must be applied for every 12 calendar months. A non-refundable filing fee must be paid at the time of application for the full term of the permit (either 30 days, or 12 months). Acceptable methods of payment are credit card, check and e-Check if submitted electronically. Review The application is accepted and reviewed for completeness. If additional information is needed, DPS staff will contact the customer directly through ePlans. Be sure to upload the General Permit application and any other relevant documents into ePlans. Permit Available Once the payment is processed and the review is approved, the permit will be issued and made available online. Online processing of General Permits may take up to 5 business days.
