Highway Department
Giles County Highway Department
The Giles County Highway Department is responsible for maintaining the roads of Giles County. The Highway Department monitors roads and bridges to stay on top of repair needs, but citizens are welcome to inform the Highway Office of any new areas of concern so that they can be inspected and placed on the priority list for scheduled maintenance and repair.
While the Highway Department does its part to maintain safe roads, drivers are reminded to obey the traffic laws and not text and drive and never to drive into standing water. It is always the goal of the Highway Department to keep traffic moving during necessary repairs, but drivers are also reminded to use extreme caution when driving through work zones. Slow down and move over as you drive through work zones.
The County Commission determines the priority list of proposed new roads. The Highway Department is not responsible for the maintenance and building of roads on private residential and commercial property. The Chief Administrative Officer of the Giles County Highway Department has general control over the location, relocation, construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of the county road system.
The Department is generally responsible for the use and control of all machinery, tools, supplies and material owned or used by the county in the construction, reconstruction, repair and maintenance of county roads and bridges.
